It can be overwhelming to find the right healthcare provider for your needs and not all cancer care centers are capable of treating appendix cancer. We have curated a list of specialists who are experienced in treating appendix cancer in Canada. This list is evolving as we continue to identify and verify qualified professionals.

Properly diagnosing and treating appendix cancer requires skill and experience, so it is important to find a specialist who knows how to treat it effectively

Appendix cancer is most often treated using Cytoreductive surgery (CRS) in combination with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), especially if the cancer has spread throughout the abdominal cavity. This is a highly advanced procedure that involves surgically removing all visible tumours, followed by circulation of heated chemotherapy within the abdomen to kill any remaining microscopic cancer cells. Not all cancer centres in Canada that perform CRS/HIPEC specialize in appendix cancer. Given the specialized nature of the procedure, the following should be considered:

• Referral Requirement: Talk to your physician or oncologist to be referred to the surgeons listed.
• Be Aware: Not all surgeons offering CRS/HIPEC have the same level of appendix cancer experience.
• Questions to ask may include:

• Where did they receive their appendix cancer training?
• How many appendix cancer patients have they treated?
• Approximately how many CRS/HIPECs have they performed?

Some patients may also be treated with chemotherapy before, after or instead of surgery. Those patients are treated with other treatments, like chemotherapy or other modalities are treated by a medical oncologist, which are not included on this list.
